We’ve received reports of people door knocking households in Gisborne that claim to be conducting fire safety and energy audits on behalf of Council.
Council doesn’t conduct or authorise contractors to do such audits on our behalf.
Tips to avoid door-to-door scams:
Always ask people for identification. Be cautious of anyone who demands up-front payment or offering ‘today only’ deals. Do not provide personal or billing information. You can say no and ask them to leave at any time. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) has a ‘Do not knock’ sign you can print and display.
