We are proud to share that on Wednesday 22nd June, Coolgardie was announced as the third-place winner in the GWN7 Tiny Tourism Town Awards at the WA Tourism Conference in Perth.
The Shire of Coolgardie’s Tourism and Heritage Coordinator Katherine Fox, who compiled the submission, attended and accepted the award.
“A lot of hard work goes into the nomination for these awards, and we were so excited when we found out we were finalists. To win third place in our category and be recognised in front of our industry peers felt amazing”The awards night gives those in the industry an opportunity to network, make connections and get to know other representatives in the tourism industry after attending two and a half days of conference. Along with the awards for Top Tourism Town, Top Small Tourism Town & Top Tiny Tourism Town, they also presented awards for Individual Excellence in Customer Service, Individual Excellence in Aboriginal Tourism, and the FACET Golden Guide Award.
To even be considered a finalist, part of the submission process required entrants to create and submit an itinerary for their town, plus a 100-word introduction with two hero images, an 800-word feature editorial and a 2-minute video showcasing the town's attractions.
With a range of entrants, it was whittled down to twelve towns that made up the finalists over the three Top Tourism Town Award categories. With coastal, wheatbelt and goldfields towns all being represented in our category it really showcased the diversity in our state. Rich in history, attractions and beautiful red earth landscapes, for Coolgardie to be recognised in such a varied field shows its uniqueness as a tourism destination.
The state level award will further promote tourism in Coolgardie creating exposure and increased visitor numbers.
There are so many reasons for people to visit Coolgardie, one of these being their magnificent old architecture showcased in the buildings lining Bayley St, telling a tale of history not only of Coolgardie and the Goldfields region, but also of the state of WA.
This is the second time in four years that Coolgardie have nominated for these awards, and both times they have been finalists in their category. Their previous entry was in 2018, where they took home the Judges Visit Award.
