Redland City Council CEO Andrew Chesterman said:

I would like to advise the community that the Mayor has taken leave and Deputy Mayor Cr Julie Talty is now Acting Mayor in accordance with the Local Government Act.

Council is continuing to deliver its many great services to our city; and our more than 1000 employees, most of whom are Redlands Coast residents themselves, remain committed to high levels of service for our community.

From libraries and art galleries to parks and open spaces, from wastewater management to caring for our city’s lost or abandoned pets and so much more, our dedicated employees are working every day to help make Redlands Coast the great place it is.

As we commence delivery of our $396 million budget, including a $116 million capital investment program, I thank each and every one of our employees for their commitment to the city and the community.

As I have stated previously, this is an upsetting time for all, but our shared love of Redlands Coast – this beautiful city by the bay – unites us as a Council, an organisation and a community. Together, through mutual respect and kindness for each other, we will continue to achieve this every day.

In regard to the single-vehicle accident at the corner of Queen and Wellington streets, Cleveland on 23 June 2022, the matter is now before the court.

As such, Council, in full respect of any investigations, the court and judicial process, is not at liberty to comment further on the matter.
