Join us for National Tree Day on September 3, 2022

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting residents to join National Tree Day activities at three Council parks on Saturday, 3 September from 8-10am.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon, pictured, said public tree planting would be held at Glenvale, Gowrie Junction and Middle Ridge for this year’s event.

“National Tree Day is part of an initiative to increase our Region’s urban forest population,” Cr McMahon said.

“Council is aiming to plant more than 2000 new trees and 200 shrubs and grasses throughout the Region for this year’s event.

“Our Region is well known as Australia’s Garden City and the planting of these additional trees will enhance our established reputation.

“This is an open event for everyone in our community to participate in and enjoy.

“While we would love to see a huge turnout, local tree enthusiasts keen to participate in the day’s activities will need to make a booking to assist with organisation and Covid regulations.”

Locations for this year include: • Nelder Park: Sunset Drive, Glenvale

• Rody Burke Road Park: Rody Burke Road, Gowrie Junction

• Glen Lomond Park: Dippel Street / McStay Street, Middle Ridge.

Participants will need to bring their own gloves, trowels and drinking water with them on the day.

Enclosed shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, a broad-brimmed hat and sunscreen are also highly recommended.

While National Tree Day was marked officially on 31 July, TRC organises a date in early September to coincide with spring to ensure tree seedlings are given the best chance for survival, based on our Region’s specific climate.

Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, which is sponsored by Toyota, is held annually to inspire communities to plant trees and protect nature.
