Balanced budget delivers a sustainable future for the community

The Shire of Capel Council adopted the 2022-23 Annual Budget on 3 August 2022 which is committed to delivering a sustainable future for the community.

Shire of Capel President Doug Kitchen said the Council have developed a balanced, break-even 2022-23 Annual Budget, that ensures the Shire can deliver on the needs of a growing community and on the outcomes set out in the endorsed Strategic Community Plan 2021-31.

“Taking a long-term, sustainable approach to the Shire’s finances is part of the leadership and stewardship that we must demonstrate. Following over fourteen internal and four Community Townhall workshops, we have come to a position that is based on community input and delivers on our current situation and future needs.”

“The Council endorsed the $25.6 million dollar budget, to ensure the Shire can sustainably deliver the needs of a growing community and on the outcomes in the Strategic Community Plan. We have increased spending on maintaining existing assets (roads, paths, facilities, parks and playgrounds) to a fit-for-purpose standard, and endorsed overall fair, equitable rates for like properties based on good rating principles,” he continued.

Budget Highlights:

The 2022-23 Annual Budget reports a year-end balanced position. Financially supports the 2022-2026 Corporate Business Plan, which includes a range of new capital and operational projects. Commits $95,000 to support community driven budget requests. $150,000 capital improvements to community buildings. $445,738 towards Gelorup Bushfire Brigade Facility. Funding towards Dalyellup Skate Park of $582,297. $200,000 upgrade of watering systems to improve efficiency. Funds Capital Works spends of $12,098,002, for both maintenance and renewals programs consisting of some: $4.5m on road upgrades and maintenance $1.5m on footpath maintenance, and $897,000 on drainage
