Fremantle swings into festival mode with the launch tonight (Thursday 11 August) of 10 Nights in Port, transforming the city into a warming winter wonderland aglow with music, fire, ceremony and art.
Celebrating the unique culture and artistic spirit of Walyalup, the City-produced festival is set to draw visitors from all over Perth to enjoy the excitement.
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the festival, from 11–21 August, was a perfect opportunity to get out and about in Freo.
“There’s a huge array of performances, installations, new talent and established acts at locations all over the city so rug up and join in, it’s going to be a fantastic festival,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
The opening event at Walyalup Koort begins at 5.30pm and will feature a Welcome to Country as well as performers and projects from the festival program.
An epic sand mural created with the help of local primary school students will also feature as dancers, drums and fire art light the night.
Hot tip—there will also be toasted marshmallows!
