This year Seniors Month will be celebrated from 1 to 31 October, with the theme of social connections.
‘Seniors month is a great opportunity for Queenslanders of all generations to connect and celebrate the contributions of seniors to the state,’ John McDougall, General Manager of Communities.
Various events and activities will be held throughout the month across the Central Highlands, including at council libraries.
The most anticipated event of the month is the Seniors Luncheon. This year, the luncheon will be held on 5 October at the Capella Cultural Centre from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
‘The luncheon is one of my favourite events of the year,’ Mayor Kerry Hayes says,
‘It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with those who have the most life experience in the Central Highlands.
‘I’m always pleased by the lively turnout, the entertainment, food, and of course, the awards ceremony.
Free buses to and from the event will be provided in Duaringa, Dingo, Bluff, Blackwater, Comet, Yamala, Emerald, Springsure, Rolleston and the Gemfields.
For those who can’t attend the luncheon, registration for hand-delivered gift boxes will also take place in the week following the luncheon.
Seniors, caregivers, family members and friends can register for the luncheon from Monday 15 August to Friday 23 September by calling 1300 242 686. Registration for the luncheon, bus, or gift box is essential.
Central Highlands community members aged 55 and over are eligible to participate. Carers are also welcome to join and support the community members attending. Bookings are required for all events.
