Over the coming months, Council’s Cool Changes program will be working with the Kyneton and Macedon/Mount Macedon communities to develop a Community Climate Action Plan.
The program is an initiative that brings together community members to collaboratively create a Community Climate Action Plan unique to their town. It is an opportunity to strengthen current projects, programs and connections already forged over many years whilst creating a new, shared vision for climate action into the future.
The program has already been successfully run in Malmsbury, Woodend, Romsey, Lancefield, Gisborne and Riddells Creek and has addressed key local issues such as community-owned renewable energy, biodiversity protection and enhancement, sustainable and active transport, community education, waste reduction and many more.
Council’s Sustainability Officer Justin Walsh said the program was a great way to get the community talking about Climate Change.
“It’s so inspiring to assist local grassroots climate action and I love the opportunity to walk alongside communities in finding answers to some of our biggest environmental questions,” he said.
Previous participants have also given the program a great wrap, “Yay Council – this sort of thing is surely part of your mission! Great facilitators, supportive of everyone ideas,” and “Great community consultation and involvement” are comments reflective of the feedback.
The program kicks off with an online survey asking you to share your priorities for local climate action, which closes 9 September.
