Council is holding a Community Fun Day in Centenary Park on Father’s Day and is encouraging everyone to come along.
The free event will run Sunday, 4 September from 9am – 12pm and will be a relaxed morning of fun activities for all, including a visit by the Lexus Melbourne Cup and champion jockey Glen Boss.
Other activities will include a mini scavenger hunt as a lead up to Towers Rush, Dad vs kids challenges, jumping castle, rocking pirate ship and face painting.
Councillor Kate Hastie said it will be a perfect way to spend Father’s Day with the family.
“I can’t think of a better way of spending Father’s Day morning than in the park having fun with the family.
“The chance to get up close with the 18 carat gold trophy will certainly add a sense of excitement,” said Cr Hastie.
The 2022 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour will be in Charters Towers on the weekend of 3 & 4 September 2022 and will give the local community a chance to experience the magic of the Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy.
As part of the Tour, the iconic trophy will also be on display at the Charters Towers Charity Ball on Saturday, 3 September which is being held at the recently refurbished Charters Towers Racecourse.
With the annual Towers Rush event quickly approaching and planned to be bigger and better than ever, the ‘mini scavenger hunt with a twist’ will be the perfect warm up.
“Kids can grab their dads, mums or grandparents and take part in the challenge, which I think will be a great way to spend Father’s Day.
“The morning’s activities are free and we’re hoping that lots of families come down to celebrate Father’s Day with us at Centenary Park,” added Councillor Hastie.
