For those households directly impacted by the storm and flash flooding on 13 and 14 August we are offering free access to the Southbridge Waste Transfer Station. Acting Mayor Sally Doyle said Council is committed to supporting wellbeing and resilience in our communities, particularly following a disaster.
“Understanding the extent and severity of damage caused by the weather event is difficult but we do know that over 100 properties have reported significant damage and over 10 families have had to leave their homes. We also know there are many more people that we haven’t heard from yet,” Acting Mayor Doyle said.
“We encourage you to look out for your friends, family and neighbours and reach out for support if you need it.”
Council staff have been working with health, community, and business support services to offer help and advice to people affected by the recent storm and flooding event. A community recovery session was set up at the Huon Valley Hub last week for locals to drop in and get advice and help for assistance.
“We’d like to thank Australian Red Cross – Tasmania, The Salvation Army Tasmania, Vinnies Tasmania, Rural Business Tasmania, Kingborough & Huon Business Enterprise Centre, Lifeline Tasmania, RACT, Housing Connect, Community Health Social Workers, Rural Alive & Well, Tim Tierney from Tierney Law and the National Resilience and Recovery Agency for standing by on the end of the phone.
“We will keep working to connect community with support agencies and services.”
Please feel free to drop into the Huon Valley Hub, 23 Main Street, to chat, or email us at [email protected] or phone 6264 0300.
