The first step towards the Barrington Tops Road $9.8 million upgrade will commence following Upper Hunter Shire Council last night accepting the tender from Barker Ryan Stewart for the road pavement and initial seal design.
Council has obtained $7,224,234 in grant funding under the Fixing Local Roads Program, ($4,530,000 from Round 2 and $2,694,234 from Round 3). Council co-contributed $2,645,453 to upgrade the 8.9km from Moonan Brook Road.
Four businesses tendered for the project with Barker Ryan Stewart finishing first based on the tenderer scoring guidelines.
The tendered road design scope includes the design of road widening where there is room, design of drainage structure, road pavement design and design of initial seal.
Council will also enter into an agreement with Diamond Energy for the provision of electricity to the Shire’s large sites and street lighting.
Following MOJO Energy’s notification to cease its electricity supply agreement, the General Manager was given authority to execute a short-term contract.
Eight tenders were submitted with Diamond Energy being the most cost effective and suitable for the Upper Hunter.
Council also agreed to extend the lease the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre at the corner of Kelly and Susan St.
