Her Majesty The Queen visited Broken Hill in March 1954, drawing international attention to our outback city, and leaving an indelible mark on the estimated 40,000 people who turned out to welcome the young royal and her husband, the Late Prince Phillip.
Flags across NSW are flying at half-mast and these will be remain at half-mast throughout the official mourning period in the United Kingdom (10 days).
Condolence books will be made available at the Broken Hill City Council Administrative Building and the Broken Hill City Library for those wishing to offer their own personal condolences to Her Late Majesty. The condolence books be open during the official mourning period, after which time it will be sent to Buckingham Palace via the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Alternatively, Messages of condolence can be recorded online via links to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet or to the Royal Family website.
NSW libraries, including the Broken Hill City Library, will also be available to assist the community to send online messages of condolence.
