Four projects aimed at addressing coastal erosion and hazards at local beaches have been granted more than $222,000 through the State Government’s CoastWA program.

The funds will be used for renourishment works at Quinns Beach and Yanchep Lagoon Beach, an aerial survey of beaches and coastal structures, offshore sediment investigations, and data collection.

Mayor Linda Aitken said the funding would boost the City’s ongoing coastal management activities.

“The City’s coastline is one of our most popular natural assets and it is vital we ensure they are protected against the impacts of development and erosion now and into the future,” she said.

“This announcement ties in with our recently endorsed Coastal Management Plan – a key document in guiding the management of the City’s 32 kilometres of coastline over the next 15 years.”

Planning and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the City’s coastal management activities help protect the State’s coastlines against the increasing impacts of climate change.

“Our beaches often bear the brunt of severe weather systems, especially during the winter months, so these projects are crucial to protecting our precious asset,” she said.

The beach renourishment works are set to be carried out in front of the Quinns Beach carpark, Quinns Dog Beach and Yanchep Lagoon as required prior to the 2023 winter storm season.
