Get involved in the Saving our Snake-necked Turtle Program.
The Cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) are collaborating with Murdoch University and the South West Group to participate in the Saving our Snake-necked Turtle Project, funded by Lotterywest.
Yellagonga Regional Park wetlands, such as Lake Joondalup, Lake Goollelal, Beenyup Swamp and Walluburnup Swamp wetlands, are home to populations of the Southwestern snake-necked turtle which are under threat from a combination of predation by feral animals and native birds such as ravens, mortality from road strikes, and lack of suitable nesting habitat. The Cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo will share information with the community on the latest turtle management information and how to register to use TurtleSAT.
TurtleSAT is a citizen science app which will be used to inform future management actions at Yellagonga Regional Park. Further information on the program is available on the Murdoch University website.
