40 years of the Victorian Seniors Festival

The Victorian Seniors Festival theme this year is ‘Takin’ it Easy’ and the festival is very much a celebration of older people’s resilience over the past 2 years.

To help seniors across the state participate in a way that they feel comfortable with, the Victorian program includes a mix of live and online entertainment.

Online performances will be available at www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/festivalsandawards

Radio sessions will be available at www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/festivalsandawards/listen-now. To find out which radio stations are participating, residents can call the Victorian Seniors Card team on 1300 797 210 for details.

Victorian Seniors Card holders can take advantage eight days of free public transport between 2–9 October and head to Celebration Day at Federation Square on Sunday 2 October and The Festival Hub at the Edge from Monday 3 October to Friday 7 October. Seniors can register for the Victorian Seniors Card online at: www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/seniors-card/apply-card.

Victorian Senior of the Year Awards 2022

Council also recognises Cardinia Senior of the Year 2022 Ian Wake in October. Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield will accompany Ian to attend the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards Ceremony at Government House in October.

Ian, an active Rotarian for 50 years, has held a range of club leadership positions and is the first to lend a helping hand for their community projects, barbecues and working bees. He has been involved in the development of Rotary Park, where he has initiated planting of native trees and shrubs and been involved in projects such as the construction of shelters, seating, the toilet block, and other amenities.

Ian has also run ‘old time’ community dances since 2007, raising more than $150,000 for Rotary Club of Pakenham projects, has chartered 2 Interact and 2 Rotaract clubs, and has been involved in the Beaconsfield Scout Group and Church of Christ Berwick.
