Each year, communities across NSW experience a range of emergencies, including bushfires, home fires, floods, storms, heatwaves and power outages.
In recent years, we’ve seen an unparalleled number of events impacting large areas of NSW in quick succession, highlighting the importance of being prepared for all hazards.
This year the Lithgow Readiness Rally is hosting an exciting one-day event on Saturday, 15 October 2022 helping everyone to be better prepared for disasters.
Over the next FIVE Weeks Lithgow there will be a new post with one of the five simple steps to Get Ready for any emergency:
Know your risk – What types of disasters could affect you? Plan now for what you will do – Talk with your family and friends. Get your home ready – Do general maintenance and check your insurance. Be aware – Do you know how to prepare and what to do in a disaster? Connect with your local emergency services now. Look out for each other – Share information with everyone you can.In the lead up to the event, Lithgow City Council will give away a $100 Frankie’s Restaurant & Bar Gift Voucher for how you ‘Get Ready’ for disaster. One lucky resident from the LGA will be chosen each week for five weeks. To enter follow the Readiness Rally Facebook or Instagram page and comment on the question asked in the post.
What is the Readiness Rally?
Members of the community impacted by disaster events have expressed a desire for information to be better prepared and more able to respond in future. The types of information needed includes how to protect family, property, pets and livestock, weed, land and pest management, working with and protecting the natural environment, firefighting tools and equipment, energy backup and savings advice, insurance, and communications and technology.
The Readiness Rally is designed to bring all these elements into a one-day event that includes presentations, an expo, workshops and demonstrations, wellbeing and art activities (for all ages) and more! This exciting event will be held on 15 October 2022 from 9am to 3pm at the Maldhan Ngurr Ngurra Lithgow Transformation Hub and Lithgow Union Theatre.
The Lithgow Readiness Rally is open to everybody. You can find more information on the Readiness Rally website at www.readinessrally.com.au and Facebook or Instagram @lithgowreadinessrally.
