Brand new facilities and infrastructure improvements are now complete following a $1.2 million cricket precinct upgrade at Memorial Oval in Ingleburn.
Mayor George Greiss and Member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves unveiled the new facilities on Saturday alongside representatives from the Ingleburn RSL Cricket Club and Ingleburn Magpies Junior AFL.
The project was jointly-funded by Campbelltown Council and a $100,000 grant from the NSW Government’s ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Cricket Legacy Fund.
“Memorial Oval is in action year-round hosting both cricket and AFL for local kids to play in a welcoming environment,” Cr Greiss said.
“After the last cricket season was interrupted by COVID-19, this new facility will be a great way to welcome back many players and provide hard-working club volunteers with state-of-the-art new facilities,” he said.
Member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves said the improvements, including a new amenity building and irrigation system at the Ingleburn sporting ground, will cater for the rise in female cricketers and footy players in Sydney’s south-west.
“These upgrades mean that the local Macarthur association and clubs can continue to increase female participation in sport by providing facilities that are inclusive, safe and welcoming for everyone,” Mr Sidgreaves said.
“Over 600,000 people are expected to be calling Macarthur home by 2036, so it’s important the local community has fit-for-purpose facilities that will meet current and future needs.
“Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club’s female cricket academy continues to grow in popularity, as well as grassroots participation in both cricket and AFL across the Macarthur region.”
