Festival of Small Halls is returning to the Region this October with shows in Pentland and Ravenswood on Wednesday 12 and Thursday, 13 October 2022.

First visiting and performing in Charters Towers back in 2019, the Festival has returned multiple times to perform for audiences throughout the region, and will be performing over two nights this year.

The Festival is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists, both national and international, chosen for their musical talent and ability to connect with their audiences, and sends them on the road to tiny halls all over the Country.

Councillor Graham Lohmann said the tour is great way to take music to regional areas and for music lovers to enjoy a night of original music.

“We’re excited that the Festival of Small Halls is again returning to our region to share their exceptional talents.  From previous experience, the upcoming tour will provide fantastic music and storytelling for those in attendance.

“Because of the small hall format of the Festival, the audience really connect with the artists and are engaged with their music and their stories,” said Councillor Lohmann.

Artists featured this year are Canadian folk gem Catherine MacLellan, and festival favourite Karl S. Williams.

Catherine MacLellan has released seven albums, the latest being COYOTE: a travelogue through heartbreak, loss and the joy of life, is highly respected by her peers, and feels most at home on stage.

Williams is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist and poet who was recognised as artist of the year at the inaugural Gold Coast Music Awards in 2015 and took out a QMA in 2018 for the single ‘Blood To Give’.

“I encourage all those interested in listening to live music make sure they head along and make a night of it,” Cr Lohmann said.

Council has purchased all tickets for both events to allow residents to enjoy this experience for free, however tickets are limited due to size of the venues.

Tickets can be collected from both the Pentland and Ravenswood Post Offices, as well as Council’s Administration Centre.
