Connecting the community through food

Published on 20 September 2022

Ever thought about growing your own nutritious food but didn’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve wanted to learn more about how growing your own food could help the environment?

Come along to The Murrurundi Collective’s event “Let’s talk about growing food” and have all your questions answered.

The Murrurundi Collective is a local community food hub with the purpose to help the community thrive through food.

The free event will be held at 1pm on Saturday, September 10 at 41 Mayne Street, Murrurundi and will feature guest speaker Aaron Brocken.

Aaron has a passion for organic farming and enjoys educating people about how they contribute to the community through food.

His passion in this area stems from having grown up on an organic blueberry farm in Mt Tomah which he continues to work on today.

Aaron is also a director on the board of Harvest Trails and Markets, a not-for-profit community incorporated organisation that has set up multiple farm gate trails and farmers markets.

To align with the Murrurundi Collective’s purpose, Aaron will draw upon his expertise and experience to discuss how food hubs can benefit communities and how people can set up their own food businesses.

Workshop attendees can also expect to learn about principles of permaculture, holistic management, indigenous farming techniques, how to grow nutrient-dense healthy food and how growing food the right way can benefit the environment.
