Upper Hunter Shire Council voted to include several key projects for its application to the Stronger Communities Fund.

Council agreed to include the restoration of the mural in Kelly St, Scone, Hunter Warbirds lighting and ventilation, the Merriwa CBD activation upgrade and the Murray Bain lighting upgrade.

Mayor Cr Maurice Collison said the projects would be a fabulous addition to the Upper Hunter, thanks to the State Government.

“This funding will allow Council to progress these projects and enhance the Upper Hunter from a economic, tourism and social point of view,” he said.

“By looking to activate the Merriwa CBD, we are looking to add tourism and visitors to the area and ensure local businesses and the community receive the benefits.

“The Hunter Warbirds lighting and ventilation is the next stage to enhance the facility to ensure it is suitable all-year round.”

Council also voted against the helipad at Merriwa.
