Mareeba is located within an easy one-hour drive from Cairns offering a regional lifestyle with all its benefits in relatively close proximity to Cairns.

The Role:

As a Heavy Plant Operator (Grader), you will be responsible for the operation and general maintenance of Council plant for road construction and maintenance as well as provide other support for the department as directed. Plant will include heavy mechanical plant such as single unit graders over 35KW. This position will be based in Dimbulah.

What we are looking for:

You will need to be able to operate plant competently and safely to exact specifications in a civil construction environment You will have sound mechanical aptitude and be able to recognise faults in heavy plant that you’re operating and recommend or be able to apply appropriate maintenance or repair Sound written and verbal communication skills You will be expected to contribute and work within a team environment You will have to undertake some manual handling and labouring tasks in hot and humid conditions and be able to follow our safe work practices

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills (Mandatory for the position)  

Current Queensland HR driver’s licence or be able to obtain one within 6 months of starting Extensive experience operating earth moving equipment in civil and road construction or similar work environment Experience operating graders including, road formation grading, roadside drainage works and gravel re-sheeting Queensland Construction Industry White Card, or national equivalent Current Traffic Control Accreditation or be eligible and willing to obtain accreditation

Sound knowledge or construction methods and principles relating to road works will be highly regarded.

The role will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
