The City of Parramatta is preparing to refresh a series of playgrounds across the local government area and Council would like residents’ input to help plan and design these revamped open spaces.
As part of Council’s Play Your Way! campaign, you are invited to have your say on six parks that need a little bit of love to be brought back to life for families to enjoy.
The parks are spread across the LGA, with at least one in each ward. Ageing infrastructure will be replaced, and more challenging play elements installed.
“Great parks and playgrounds are important to families across our entire city, and especially where there is a higher concentration of apartments,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis said.
“We have some fantastic open spaces in our LGA, but after decades of use some playgrounds have seen better days and we want to create great places that kids want to visit.
“Not only do parks and playgrounds improve neighbourhoods, but they’re also vital for our children’s motor and social skills.”
Three of the six parks earmarked for upgrades will also feature major landscaping improvements, with Somerville Park receiving $4.57 million and Kilpack Park $1.409 million as part of the NSW Government’s recent $15 million WestInvest funding announcement.
The six parks Council is seeking feedback on are:
Somerville Park, Eastwood Arrunga Street Reserve, Dundas Anna Maria King Park, Dundas Peggy Womersely Reserve, Carlingford Kilpack Park, Carlingford Rosella Park, Harris ParkSubmissions are open until Friday 4 November.
“Community consultation plays a very important part in this process. I encourage you to get involved so we can deliver the best parks possible,” Cr Davis said.
The upgrades have been made possible through City of Parramatta’s Playground Replacement Program, part of Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP).
Community members are also being invited to share their thoughts on proposed upgrades to Newington Reserve, Silverwater. These improvements include a new pavilion, full-and mini-sized football fields, lighting, spectator seating, park furniture, electric barbecues, outdoor exercise equipment and additional garden beds and shade tree planting.
The park upgrades are on top of seven others currently underway, and 36 that have been completed across the LGA under the Playground Replacement Program. Some of Council's most popular recent upgrades include Edwin Ross Reserve at Carlingford, and River Park Playground at Ermington, which opened last year with pirate ship-themed equipment - as voted by hundreds of locals during community consultation.
Submissions for Newington Reserve close Monday 7 November.
