Flood-affected household clean-up

Please be mindful of health and safety while cleaning up - here are some things to look out for.

If you are able to get to a Resource Recovery Centre to dispose of flood waste, all fees are waived. Council is providing a limited kerbside household flood waste collection from naturestrips for those who are unable to dispose of flood damaged materials. This is a limited service, so please only place items on naturestrips if you can not take the rubbish to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre. If you have household flood waste on your naturestrip, please ensure you maintain a 1 metre clearance around your kerbside bins so they can be collected. If you have a truck/ute/trailer and can assist friends and neighbours to take waste to a Resource Recovery Centre, please do so. For rural properties, a separate collection schedule is being planned and will be shared in due course. In the meantime, please do not place your flood-damaged materials on the roadside as this can cause risk to traffic. If you suspect asbestos, please DO NOT place it on naturestrips for collection. Any waste suspected of containing asbestos will not be collected and poses a risk to the community. Please contact a professional removalist for advice. Please do not put sandbags in skip bins or household collection bins as they make the bins too heavy to collect. Kerbside bins

Collection of your household kerbside bins have recommenced for areas that are safe for drivers to access.

Your regular collection day will remain the same. This coming Tuesday 1 November 2022 (Melbourne Cup Day) will be business as usual for kerbside collections.  If your bin is not collected on the usual day please leave it out for an additional two days. We are working extended hours to collect your bins. For residents who had their kerbside bin collection missed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday last week, Council will be collecting all three bins next week. Please put your red, yellow and green lid bins out ALL TOGETHER for your next collection. This will help reduce the flow-on effect of excess rubbish in the bins following missed collections earlier this week due to the flood emergency. After this collection, the schedule will return to normal with the green lid and yellow lid bins alternating each week and the red lid bin collected weekly. If you’re not sure which bins need to be put out the following week, check via our website. If your bin is too full it can be emptied at your nearest Resource Recovery Centre (see below). If you have household flood waste on your naturestrip, please ensure you maintain a 1 metre clearance around your kerbside bins so they can be collected. Please do not put sandbags in your kebside collection bins - they will make the bins too heavy to lift.

Please show kindness and respect to the drivers and understand they will be unable to enter floodwaters or drive on unsafe roads. The team are operating with reduced staff and are members of our community who have also been impacted by the floods.

If the Resource Recovery Centre closest to you is currently not open, please keep an eye out for information on when normal services and operating times will resume.
