The green waste facility at Glasson Street in Emerald was closed last week due to wet weather impacts.
However, following this, council also received notification from the Department of Environment and Science that the Environmental Authority for this area needs to be amended.
The amendment is needed due to recent increases in the tonnage of waste entering this facility, which exceeds the limit under our existing permit.
Council is actively working with the department to get the amended permits in place as soon as possible so we can reopen the facility. At this time council does not have an estimated reopening date. Please monitor our Facebook page for updates here.
Whilst the Glasson Street green waste facility is closed, council has extended the hours at the Lochlees Landfill to 7 days per week, including 8.00 am – 4.00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
