Extension complete for Emerald Community Kindergarten

The new Emerald Community Kindergarten building was officially opened last week.

Mayor Kerry Hayes, Councillor Megan Daniels, Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar MP and members of our community were given a tour of the new kindy building by Emerald Community Kindergarten Director Cassie Shields and Committee President Melanie Travers.

‘I wanted to thank the Central Highlands Regional Council and their team of builders and contractors,’ Ms  Shields said.

‘We are incredibly grateful for this new building and even more grateful for the opportunity it is giving us to provide education to our wider community.

‘The new building sends an important message to our community. Every time someone drives past or walks through those front doors, we are showing them that their education is valued, they are cared for and they have a right to learn in a safe and secure environment.’

The project involved the construction of a new building with 3 kindergarten rooms, an administration office, kitchen and laundry facilities, and on-site car parking. The new space has allowed the kindergarten to offer an additional 50 places for children, increasing the capacity to 150 children per week.

Mayor Kerry Hayes said the redevelopment of the kindergarten was an example of council’s commitment to prioritising these vital community assets.

‘The expansion of this facility will allow our community better access to quality childhood education,’ he said.

‘This project will also help to ensure the Emerald Community Kindergarten is future-proofed to cater for any change in government policy that broadens early childhood learning objectives.’

This project was jointly funded by the Australian Government Building Better Regions Fund and Central Highlands Regional Council.
