In this year’s competition performers will have the chance to win recording studio time, interviews on local radio and performance opportunities. The first heat was held on Sunday 6 November from 11am – 2pm at Rockingham Youth Centre. This heat featured a ‘battle of the bands’ in addition to some performances from junior performers aged 12 – 16 years.

Heat two will be held on Sunday 13 November from 11am - 2pm at Warnbro Shopping Centre, with junior performers taking centre stage. The third heat is scheduled to take place on Sunday 20 November from 11am - 2pm at Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre, with senior performers aged 17 – 24 years competing.

The 2022 Breakthrough Music Competition Final will be hosted at The Lookout on the Rockingham Foreshore on Sunday 27 November from 11am – 2pm. Mayor Deb Hamblin will be a special guest judge on the day. All Breakthrough heats and the final will be emceed by Nur from Chop Street Music, who runs the Rockingham Youth Centre’s Rockin’ Jams music program.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said the Breakthrough Music Competition provided aspiring musicians with the opportunity to fast-track their career in the music industry.

“Not only does Breakthrough give young people the chance to turn their musical passion into greater success, it also aims to boost their self-confidence and develop a sense of civic pride,” Mayor Hamblin said.

“Young people who are involved in the Rockin’ Jams program and members of the Rockingham Youth Reference Group will be involved in co-emceeing and volunteering at the event.

The heats and final promise to be highly entertaining and the City encourages community members to get out and support the diverse range of musical talent we have in our community.
