The 2022 Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup and Community Festival is galloping closer, with thousands of visitors set to Rediscover Rockingham for the iconic event which will be taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November.
The event features a beach racing carnival along the Rockingham Foreshore and a weekend full of entertainment highlighted by a free community festival at Churchill Park. The community festival begins on Saturday 12 November, while the racing program takes place on Sunday 13 November.
The Community Festival features family-friendly entertainment including obstacle courses, sensory craft activities, market stalls, food trucks, live entertainment on stage and a movie screening in the evening.
Sunday’s racing program is highlighted by six beach horse races and Fashions on the Foreshore, while the Community Festival will continue for a second day. The horse races can be seen free-of-charge along the foreshore reserve, while there will also be a designated ticketed area for those seeking to get race side with their toes in the sand.
City of Rockingham Deputy Mayor Hayley Edwards encouraged visitors from across WA to come and Rediscover Rockingham and enjoy Australia’s most unique racing experience.
“The Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup and Community Festival combines two of WA’s favourite pastimes - a day at the beach and a day at the races. It is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to find out why our City is known as the place where the coast comes to life,” Deputy Mayor Edwards said.
Last year’s event attracted nearly 20,000 people to Rockingham and injected approximately $1.6 million into the local economy.“These tangible economic and tourism benefits align with the City’s Economic Development and Tourist Destination Strategies, and Council was happy to provide $175,000 of Iconic Event Sponsorship to the Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA to help deliver this popular event once again.”
The event supports and showcases retired racehorses. No betting takes place and the health and welfare of the horses is paramount with no whips being used during the races.
All proceeds from the event support the Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA and its beneficiaries including Variety WA and the Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Free parking for the event will be available at the Village Green. Attendees can also catch public transport by getting on the 555 bus from Rockingham Train Station. For the full carnival and racing schedule visit Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup and Community Festival.
