The City of Rockingham’s efforts to foster a safe workplace for all employees have been recognised with two major work health and safety awards. On Friday 21 October at the 2022 Work, Health and Safety Foundation Awards the City won the Health and Wellbeing Award.
Following this, the City won the Worksafe Best Intervention to Address a Psychosocial Hazard in the Workplace category at the 2022 Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards, presented by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety on Friday 28 October.
Both awards were recognition for the City’s Employee Wellness Program, which focuses on supporting positive work health and safety outcomes for staff in the workplace.
Chief Executive Officer Michael Parker said the awards were recognition of the safety-first culture the City of Rockingham had built.
“Since the launch of the City’s Work Health and Safety Plan there has been a very strong focus on safety and ensuring that all of our staff work safe and go home safe,” Mr Parker said.
“Winning these awards is a significant achievement for the City and has been made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of staff across all divisions.
The award from WorkSafe was particularly significant as it is a state-wide award run by the industry regulator. The City was the only local government recognised as a finalist and to win the award among many mining and private companies was significant not only for the City but also for the local government sector.“Going forward the City will continue to focus strongly on safety as it strives to deliver the highest levels of services to the community.”
