Sadly, the REDcycle soft plastic collection program has been paused as of 9 November 2022.
Until further notice, soft plastics are unable to be collected at major supermarkets and will need to be disposed of in your red-lidded bin only. Soft plastics include items such as food wrappings and shopping bags.
Please note, soft plastics are NOT to be disposed of in your yellow-lidded recycling bins. This will cause contamination and may result in your whole bin being unrecyclable. Unfortunately council has seen an increase in contamination in both our red bin and yellow bins. We encourage all of our residents to take note as to what they are putting in each of their bins to help reduce waste going to our landfills and to support more reuse and recycling.
While the announcement of Redcycle is a disappointing outcome, it also provides us with a timely reminder to consider how we can reduce waste in more ways than just recycling. Avoiding single use and soft plastics as often as possible is a great way to reduce waste and increase sustainability.
