Public notice: It’s the washdown bay not the wastedown bay!

Posted on November 11, 2022

Pest weeds and diseases carried throughout the region can spread rapidly, are dangerous to livestock and can seriously reduce crop and land values.

The Emerald washdown bay plays an important role in reducing the spread of pest weeds and diseases when the facility is used correctly. Vehicles with the possibility of carrying seeds are highly encouraged to wash down and flush the waste stuck on their vehicles down the drain.

This does not include waste from inside the vehicle.

Rubbish bins are provided at the facility for larger waste items that should not be thrown down the drain. This includes things like food waste, cans, soap bottles, and gloves (as pictured below).

When large items are thrown down the drain it damages the washdown facility and causes unnecessary closures and expensive repairs. When the washdown bay is closed, our community is at risk of having weeds and diseases invade our critical agricultural sector.

Please be respectful when using the washdown bay, and place your rubbish in the bins provided. If the bins are full, or if you notice improper use of the washdown bay, please call council on 1300 242 686.
