It is timely to be reminded of possible impacts of the SA River Murray Flood Emergency.

Council continues to work with Lead Agencies (SES) and other Support Agencies in the SA River Murray Flood Emergency Preparedness and Response. Council has been advocating on behalf of our Community to encourage Lead Agencies to provide timely notification of essential service decommissioning; such as drinking water, electricity, sewer / CWMS and road access for vulnerable properties (if required).

In preparedness, Council teams continue to monitor essential services, including the wastewater (sewer & CWMS) network, and intend to escalate to a ‘Watch and Act’ should water levels rise. If water levels do rise sufficient to compromise the safe operation of services, temporary decommissioning steps may be taken to protect the wastewater network & other critical assets – in key locations. A swift response may be required given the unpredictable nature of water levels and weather events.

Council are being guided by Lead Agencies on decision making around the SA River Murray Flood Emergency, however, Council will take steps to protect critical systems and assets should it be required. Council will always seek to ensure service impacts are kept to a minimum whilst also ensuring the service can be reinstated without major delays and/or costly repairs to ratepayers.
