Work with Vital Mental Health Community Initiative Recognised

The award recognised the effectiveness and positive outcomes the PaRK CRG had achieved in the community since it first began back in 2016. 

It comprises more than 35 different organisations including five local governments, various State Government agencies and several community services organisations.

Community members with lived experience of suicide and mental health issues are also a key part of the CRG, which is tasked with finding the most effective responses to suicide prevention and the provision of support services to those impacted by suicide in the community. 

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said the recognition received from one of WA’s leading local government industry bodies was a ringing endorsement for the collaborative efforts all agencies had dedicated to the PaRK CRG. 

“A key aspiration in the City’s Strategic Community Plan is to grow and nurture community connectedness and wellbeing, and our involvement in the PaRK CRG is integral to fulfilling this,” Mayor Hamblin said. 

Addressing suicide and mental health issues in the community are very complex matters that require expertise from a wide range of stakeholders. The City has a strong commitment and dedication to community mental health awareness, prevention and early intervention – and we are proud to play a key role in supporting the PaRK CRG alongside a number of other agencies. 

Anglicare WA is one of the lead agencies in the PaRK CRG. Service Manager Jennifer Murphy said the organisation is proud to be part of a coalition actively supporting communities affected by suicide.

“The research shows that a coordinated and timely response can reduce the risk of negative long-term health and wellbeing outcomes for those left behind.

“Anglicare WA is committed to continuing to work in partnership with the City of Rockingham, and the other members of the PaRK CRG, in mobilising supports for community members affected by suicide.”
