Residents can dispose of their green waste for free at Porepunkah, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford transfer stations on the weekend of December 10 - 11.
Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said the ongoing wet weather and storm activity is boosting garden growth and increasing the chance of fallen branches.
“Not only is this the ideal time to clean up your property ahead of the holidays, it’s also important to keep in mind that fire risk can increase after just a short period of hot, dry weather,” he said.
“As we head into summer we need to remember that weather can be unpredictable, and being ready for an emergency - whether flood or fire - is essential.
“This is a great opportunity to clean up your property and dispose of your green waste for free.”
There is a maximum limit of two cubic metres of green waste per customer. The waste must be clean, with no wire or netting or any contaminants, with a maximum branch diameter of 200mm. No stumps.
High volumes of traffic may be encountered at the transfer stations on these days, so queues and some delays are expected.
Please use care and follow the guidance of transfer station staff when driving around transfer stations. Your courtesy and patience are appreciated.
