East Ward Councillor Annette Death has been elected Macedon Ranges Shire Council Mayor for a one-year term at a Scheduled Council Meeting in Gisborne this morning.

West Ward Councillor Jennifer Anderson was elected as Deputy Mayor.

Mayor, Cr Annette Death said she was honoured to be elected and welcomed the opportunity to lead the team of Councillors and work closely with Council’s leadership team and the community.

“I look forward to growing in this role with you all. For me, the role of Mayor is about bringing people together, encouraging diversity and different points of view, and working closely with the community to achieve positive outcomes.

“As Mayor my focus will be forward looking, solutions oriented, and working together with everyone in a constructive and supportive approach. To be in the best position we can be to govern in the best interests of the community,” she said.

Mayor, Cr Death also thanked outgoing Mayor, Cr Anderson for her commitment to the role over the last two years and in her five terms as Mayor.

“Cr Anderson has shown incredible service to our community and on behalf of Councillors, I would like to thank her for her dedication and leadership,” she said.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson, thanked the community, staff and fellow Councillors for their support during her time as Mayor, and said she was looking forward to her new role.

“We have achieved so much as a team over the last couple of years with the community beside us. We have a new CEO and four new directorates in place that are working really well together.

“I’d like to thank my two Deputy Mayors over the last two years, Cr Mark Ridgeway in the first year and Cr Rob Guthrie this year for all of their hard work and support.

“A big thank you to our family and friends too. We really couldn’t do our work without their support.

“We’ve had a lot happening over the last year with storms and floods and ask the community to please be patient as our staff are working hard through this. We work well when we all work together,” she said.
