City celebrates International Day of People with Disability

Join the City of Fremantle and our community to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

The day is recognised internationally on Saturday 3 December, but the celebrations will kick off from Wednesday 30 November with a host of events to join or lend a helping hand at. 

 9.30–11.30am, Wednesday 30 November 

The City of Fremantle is celebrating International Day of People with Disability with a community event at Samson Recreation Centre on Wednesday 30 November.

The event will showcase the Samson Rec Inclusion Program, which offers assistant and support for individuals with a disability to access mainstream sport or recreation clubs in their local area.

There will be a morning tea to celebrate the day.

The Samson Rec Inclusion Program runs every week on a Wednesday and is supported by the Fremantle Table Tennis Club.

Samson Recreation Centre is located at 44 McCombe Ave, Samson.

9–11am, Saturday 3 December 

The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia will be hosting a ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ event at Leighton Beach on Saturday 3 December from 9–11am.

The sessions give people with varying disabilities the opportunity to have a safe and happy surfing experience.

You can also sign up to volunteer at these sessions, with no surfing experience required and both water and land-based volunteering opportunities available.

Good Sammy has unveiled their new brightly coloured flagship Fremantle store, which is their biggest store south of the river!

As a registered NDIS provider, Good Sammy offers support for people with disability through employment, participation and help to develop independence.

The new Fremantle store is more than double the size of their previous store and offers more employment and training avenues for people with disability.

The space is also designed with accessibility in mind, featuring auto sliding doors, wheelchair accessible changerooms and wide aisles.

You’ll find a bigger range including furniture at the new store, along with a community space for upcycling workshops and more.

Good Sammy Fremantle is located in the former Best & Less store at 13–19 William Street.

Beaconsfield-based disability service HumDrum has teamed up with Grow & Engage Therapy Services to host Summer Markets across December to make Christmas shopping easy. 

The stalls are run by NDIS participants with all income from the sales going directly to stall owners.

The markets will be held on Saturday 3 and 10 December from 10am–1pm at HumDrum HQ (123 South Street, Beaconsfield).
