Sunday, January 15, 2023, 11:30am – 12:30pm Join us for a morning of music at Anzac Square Memorial Galleries with a free, one-hour performance by Brisbane trio Ensemble Sooon.Ensemble Sooon is an indie-classical ensemble—comprised of Danielle Bently on cello, Martin Kay on saxophone, and Toby Wren on guitar—performing new and emergent music. The trio have curated a special performance inspired by late Brisbane artist Don Ross; his love of jazz and his evocative mosaic displayed annually at Anzac Square Memorial Galleries. Guests can expect fresh arrangements of well-loved melodies, modular melodies of Phillip Glass, as well as new compositions inspired by Don Ross' work. After the performance, visitors can stay to admire Don Ross' mosaic and explore the Memorial Galleries - embarking on an interactive journey from World War I to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.Prior to the performance, visitors can learn more about this master craftsman - his life, influences, and artistic practice at our free talk on Don Ross: mosaic artist and Renaissance man.
