Funding Secured – Resources for Regions Program

Upper Hunter Shire council has been successful in securing over two million dollars as part of the Department of Regional NSW’s Resources for Region program – Round 9. The Resources for Regions program aims to support the ongoing prosperity of mining communities in regional NSW by providing economic opportunities, improved amenity and positive social outcomes.

The allocation of funding will support targeted projects that will deliver shire-wide improvements and strengthen our investment opportunities and economic development in the Upper Hunter Shire. The projects funded are outlined below:

White Park Equine Complex Upgrade ($908,714.00)

The premiere venue for the Horse Capital of Australia, the White Park Equine Complex in Scone will receive further infrastructure upgrades to ensure that we can cater to major sporting and tourism events. The improvements will increase our capacity for events, attracting visitors and increasing economic development for the Shire. Improvements include:

Roofing structure over yards Gravel pad Permanent cattle yards (Campdraft arena) Perimeter fence (Hill Street)

Upper Hunter Shire – Shire Wide Branding Strategy ($308,124)

Council will look to reactivate the Upper Hunter Shire through a regional brand strategy to strengthen tourism and economic development. The branding project will be community-led and will focus on attracting tourism and business development opportunities by creating a cohesive and memorable brand experience. 

Scone Indoor Sporting Facility – Masterplan ($59,700)

A Masterplan will be prepared which identifies a location and concept design for the construction of an indoor sporting facility within Scone, NSW.

Campbells Corner Restoration ($852,306)

Council will restore the exterior of Campbells Corner, a historic building that is the central focus of the Upper Hunter Shire. Located in the middle of the Scone CBD, Campbells Corner is an imposing, character filled building that will provide civic services including the library. The building creates an immediate impression due to its visibility so impacts on the prosperity of the Upper Hunter. The restoration will instil a sense of pride and belonging for residents and activate the CBD, increasing business development and tourism opportunities
