Saturday, February 25, 2023, 7 – 8:20pm Be transported through the romance of music in this passionate season opener with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.Featuring Tchaikovsky’s beloved Serenade for Strings, this pinnacle of string music is dazzlingly romantic. Taking a page out of Mozart’s book, Serenade for Strings is charming and delightful – but the heart-rending melodies imbue this music with passion and abandon, qualities that have come to define what we love about Tchaikovsky’s compositions.Opening with Frank Martin’s Etudes for Strings (no.2), this piece is a rare treat as it is not often performed. A brilliant showcase of string music, it is widely considered a tour de force for Martin’s remarkable gift for contrast.Copland’s Appalachian Spring is full of nostalgia, perhaps because of its quintessentially American sound, and in doing so you can’t help but be transported to the oft-forgotten beauty and idealism of the American landscape. Camerata will be joined by our wind playing friends and pianist Alex Raineri to present this splendid music. The thrilling Starburst for string orchestra by Jessie Montgomery then receives its Camerata debut. Named by the BBC as “one of the most distinctive voices in the USA, as a player and creator” the American violinist and composer creates vibrantly inventive original works.A program that showcases the radiance of the strings and the passion and energy that Camerata is known for.
