The Bluebush Village is hosting its first group of 40 guests this week as announced by Shire Chief Executive Officer James Trail at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 22nd Annual What’s Down the Track Forum on 17 November. While still partially under construction, the 200-room facility has been partitioned within the operational accommodation for the arriving guests. The village is expected to be fully operational by mid-month in December, with the official opening planned for early 2023.

The Bluebush Village is a project designed to strengthen the Shire’s economic position through increased investment opportunities in community and tourism initiatives. The accommodation is outfitted with pre-cast concrete floors, steel framing, internal plasterboard linings, and thermal and acoustic insulation to ensure quality and longevity and provide a long-term solution for tourism or residential housing if needed.

Shire President Malcolm Cullen says the village is a necessary own-source of income for the Shire as the region continues to work through rising cost of living challenges, supply chain disruptions, labour shortages, with the revenue from the accommodation to be re-invested into the community.

“Given the challenges experienced at the national, state, and local economic levels this year, the identification of alternate sources of income has been a key priority for the Shire to maintain and enhance our service provision to the community,” says Cr Cullen. “The Bluebush Village is an integral part of stabilising our local economy, investing in our community, and supports a key industry in our region. We are proud to be welcoming the first guests in the village, which is the first of its kind for the Shire.”

The village addresses the high demand for worker accommodation due to the critical shortage of housing in the Goldfields region. Approximately 75% of residents within the Shire are employed within the mining industry. The village is geographically situated in proximity to local shops and recreational facilities which will further drive economic growth in the Shire and increase local employment.
