NDIS rethink required

Council will write to the relevant Federal and State Ministers and Members to request that Broken Hill be considered 'Remote' when determining National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding. Despite the city's isolation, Broken Hill is currently classed as Urban/Regional, resulting in significantly less financial support under the NDIS.

NOTICE OF MOTION

Land needed for childcare

Council will liaise with Crown Land to try and work through Native Title issues on an empty lot at 123 Bagot St. The lot could potentially be used by Busy Kids to expand their services and help relieve the childcare shortage facing the city.

REPORTS

Solar plan moves ahead

Council voted to move into Stage 2 of its plan to build a medium-scale solar array to reduce its environmental footprint and offset rising electricity costs. Stage 2 will consider planning requirements, equipment, system design, a business case, and other preliminary aspects of the project.

Change needed on Code Of Conduct

Council will write to the Minister for Local Government and the Shadow Minister for Local Government advising Council’s concerns regarding the costs of implementing the Code of Conduct in relation to complaints. A total of six complaints were received in the last period incurring costs of $52,596.

Draft annual report on show

Councillors voted to put the 2021/2022 draft Annual Report on public display. The report includes achievements under Council's Delivery Program and Disability Inclusion Action Plan, along with audited financial statements for the past financial year. The report provides a thorough outline of Council's activities throughout the past year, and can be found on page 116 of this month's business papers.

Big round of grants

Council distributed $52,249 in Community Assistance Grants, with the Broken Hill Model Flying Club receiving $8,100 for new perimeter fencing. Other big winners included the Silver City Race Club ($7,128 for race day costs), Broken Hill Golf Club ($6,000 rates subsidy), and the BH Soccer Association ($5,191 for portable goals and nets for juniors).

Willyama Arts MOU

Council entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Willyama Arts Society of Broken Hill. Under the MOU an exhibition will be held at the gallery biennially by the Society, with the first exhibition be held in 2023.
