Council has awarded over $28,000 in funding to seven local organisations in Round 2 of the 2022-2023 Community Grants Programme.

There are two separate Grant rounds each financial year; the first in May and the second round in November, to assist not-for-profit community organisations to deliver activities/programs/services of an artistic, cultural, recreational, sporting or other community related pursuit.

Cr Graham Lohmann said the Community Grants Programme is a great avenue for local not-for-profit organisations to gain support.

“It is pleasing to see a wide variety of community organisations applying for assistance to hold events that they might otherwise find difficult to bring to fruition,” said Cr Lohmann.

Successful applicants in this round include Zonta Club of Charters Towers, Pentland Progress Association; North Queensland Offroad Racing Association; Charters Towers Burnout Club; Charters Towers Charity Ball Association; Charters Towers Rodeo Association; and Charters Towers RSL.

“The current Grant round will provide assistance for a variety of upcoming events, including the 2022 Pentland Christmas Fair; Round One of the 2023 Offroad Racing Championships; 2023 Charters Towers Burnouts Event; 2023 Charters Towers Charity Ball, and 2023 Heart of the Goldfields Rodeo.

“Funding will also be used to assist the Charters Towers RSL hold the 2023 Anzac Day Gunfire Breakfast and the Zonta Club to hold a Women Inspiring Women luncheon,” said Cr Lohmann.

Council is pleased with the cross-section of applications and look forward to seeing these community events occur over the coming year.

Council encourages local not-for-profit groups and organisations to consider how Council may assist them with their projects, events and services in the future and to look at applying in the next funding round.
