Mareeba Shire Council is making arrangements to ensure that the Shire’s swimming pools continue to operate in coming months.
Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin explains, “The current contractual arrangement for managing Council’s three swimming pools and the Dimbulah caravan park ceases on Thursday, 22 December 2022.”
“As a result, all the Swimming Pools will be closed on Thursday, 22 December 2022, and a new contractor, Marlin Coast Swimming and Fitness will be taking over until 30 June 2023, allowing Council to go to tender early in the new year to engage a long-term lease for these facilities.”
“The new contractor is planning to re-open the pools, for limited hours per day, from Friday, 23 December 2022, and then back to normal hours on Tuesday, 3 January 2023.”
Operating hours will be published on Council’s website and Facebook by Thursday, 22 December 2022, once staffing and other arrangements have been finalised.
“As Mayor, I would like to reassure residents that Council will do all that is necessary to continue to operate the pools while a new arrangement is finalised.”
“The Shire’s swimming pools provide very important social and recreational opportunities and deliver significant community benefit. Many residents are also employed as lifeguards or staff at the pools.”
“Council apologises for any inconvenience during this transition period,” Mayor Toppin concluded.
