City of Albany has officially welcomed its newest Elected Member as Councillor Elect Stephen Grimmer made his Declaration as West Ward Councillor at last night’s Special Council Meeting.
Great Southern Police Superintendent Paul Coombes was in attendance at last night’s meeting to witness the election of Councillor Stephen Grimmer to the seat of West Ward.
The West Ward seat was left vacant by the passing of Elected Member Alison Goode in August 2022 and was contested by five residents all looking to represent community on Council.
Councillor Grimmer won the election with 31.62 per cent of the votes and will hold the seat until the Local Government Election in October 2025.
Having lived in the West Ward for over 20 years, Councillor Grimmer has a self-proclaimed passion for the region and its people.
“I will advocate for services and programs that improve the lives of the people who live and work in and around Albany,” Cr Grimmer said.
“I am committed to making informed decisions that are sustainable for future generations.”
Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington congratulated Councillor Grimmer on his election success.
“The values and attitudes that Councillor Grimmer has spoken of are in line with those of the Council. The importance of regional communities, improving the lives of our residents and a sustainable future for everyone are priorities that Council stands by,” Mayor Wellington said.
“I am confident that Councillor Grimmer will add value to Council matters and community decisions with a priority list that aligns to Albany’s culture and direction for the future.
“Council bring a range of expertise, experience and knowledge to the table to make informed and thought-out decisions that are aimed at always and most importantly; being good for Albany.”
The next City of Albany Council Meeting will be held on 21 February 2023.
