Program Notification - Reconstruction of Atkinsons Road, Grindelwald

Atkinson’s Road, Grindelwald is a sealed 8.5m wide road with asphalt spoon drains for water collection either side. This busy residential and tourist route has continually broken up due to ground water being pushed through the road surface, which has required ongoing patching to maintain serviceability.

A local consulting firm's assessment determined that the existing road does not have adequate or suitable foundation and drainage, and that a full dig out and replacement is necessary.

A design was completed for the first 600m of road from number 26 to 70, including concrete v drains, construction of new pits, and driveway crossings.

Council secured Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding from the Federal Government of$500,000 and the project tender was awarded to AWC Contracting Pty. Ltd. for $875,000. Works will begin on the 9th of January 2023.

As with any project of this kind, there will be some disruption and inconvenience, however council and the contractor will endeavour to keep this to a minimum. We thank residents and motorists in advance for their patience.
