The Town of Cottesloe, together with the Town of Mosman Park and the Shire of Peppermint Grove invite our community to join us to celebrate Australia Day on Thursday, 26 January 2023.
This special day will see us come together to welcome new citizens and recognise outstanding community members as we present each Council’s Community Citizen of the Year Awards.
The Town of Cottesloe has been assisted in delivering this event by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council. The National Australia Day Council grant has enabled the Town to include an extensive Indigenous element including a smoking ceremony, Welcome to Country, performance by the Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance Group and exhibition from Japingka Aboriginal Art.
The Town also welcomes Australia Day Ambassador Sandy Chong, a Harvard alumna who migrated from Singapore in the mid-1990s and was South Perth Community Citizen of the Year in 2020.
Town of Cottesloe Mayor Lorraine Young said, “We are very pleased to be hosting the Australia Day event this year and we look forward to welcoming new citizens and recognising outstanding community members.
“We are especially pleased to be acknowledging and featuring Indigenous culture this year and we hope to see many members of our community come and share the morning with us.”
Following official proceedings guests will be entertained by A Cappella West Chorus and enjoy a complimentary breakfast.
The combined Council Australia Day event, hosted by the Town of Cottesloe, will take place on the Main Lawn at Cottesloe Civic Centre from 8am.
