Isaac Regional Council advises that the Little Red Flying Fox colony at Hoods Lagoon has temporarily expanded as part of their seasonal variation into Ivan Bettridge Park. Weaker branches have fallen onto the ground and the potential exists for more branches to fall. To protect pedestrians, temporary fencing will be installed along the Hoods Lagoon footpath at Ivan Betteridge Park from:
Monday, 3 January 2023 Until further notice
The majority of the footpath is unaffected by this temporary closure.
Pedestrians are required to remain outside the temporary fencing and exercise caution when walking near the colony. Council continues to monitor the flying fox roost and will provide the community with updates.
Residents are reminded that it is against the law to harm or disturb a flying fox colony, and unplanned and unauthorised actions can impact on you, your neighbours and your community.
For over 70 years, flying foxes have roosted in Clermont during their annual migration with Hoods Lagoon becoming a more established site in recent years. Council understands the communities’ concerns regarding the impact of flying foxes and is seeking your feedback to better understand how we can manage flying foxes into the future.
