Manager Engineering and Assets Sarah Buckley said that as part of the Dinner Plain Snowmaking Project, Council is in the feasibility stage of installing bores near the Cobungra ski slope.
“Snowmaking in the town currently relies on water extracted from two bores owned and operated by East Gippsland Water, and during the peak winter season, snowmaking operations are currently limited to ensure the town has sufficient drinking water,” she said.
“To increase the reliability of water supply for snow making, Council has started an application process with Goulburn Murray Water for the approval to install sufficient bores to support snowmaking operations, and has already notified immediate neighbouring property owners of its intention to apply for a licence to construct bores.”
Drilling works are expected to commence in March 2023 subject to Goulburn Murray Water approval.
The Dinner Plain Snowmaking Project is supported by the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund – Stimulus Round, which has contributed $3 million to help ensure the town is a destination for snow play all winter long, even if natural falls are lacking.
