Edward River Council receives immediate funding boost for Flood Recovery WorkMayor Cr Peta Betts has confirmed that Edward River Council has received more than $2m in funding to assist with emergency and immediate flood recovery works.
“Immediate funding assistance such as this allows council to hit the ground running and get started on critical repairs,” said Mayor Peta Betts
Council has to date received funding assistance from Transport for New South Wales with an advance payment of $500k to assist in emergency road repairs; Transport for New South Wales $549k for the repair of potholes and another $1m from the Office of Local Government to assist Council in undertaking immediate recovery activities.
“Flood recovery is a big job. It’s complex and costly, and there are many external factors that impact on council’s ability to get started on repair;” Cr Betts said. “Having this funding available so quickly gives us a great head start. Our teams are out assessing the sealed and unsealed roads and prioritising those repairs that pose significant safety risks.”
Whilst the focus of the funding is primarily on restoration of the road network, Council assures the community that the clean-up and re-opening of important community assets is high on council’s agenda.
“Work has commenced on the restoration of the off-leash dog park, cleaning and repairing facilities at Memorial Park, McLean Beach and the North Deni Rest Stop,” she said.
Further applications for funding are in the pipeline and outcomes will be announced soon.
“We are also very aware of the impact of the floods on our business community and industry. The long-term economic recovery for the region may not be as visible as the potholes in the road, but is of critical importance to the community of Edward River. Council is liaising with various government and other support agencies to ensure our businesses have access to the support they need”.
Clubs, sporting bodies and small businesses are encouraged to apply for grants directly through relevant funding opportunities currently available.
