Wyndham City reminds residents to slow down and take care as kids return to school next week.
Term 1 will commence on Monday 30 January, and with children walking, riding, and being dropped off and picked up by buses, it is important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings and obey the road rules.
Wyndham City Mayor and Community Safety portfolio holder, Cr Susan McIntyre said: "The safety of our children is our top priority. We ask that drivers slow down in school zones, obey crossing guards, and watch for children who may be walking or riding to school."
The busiest times for schools are between 8am-9:30am and 2:30-4pm, and people using the road are asked to observe parking and stop signs, 40km/h school speed zones, and to drive with care and without distraction.
"These are really simple actions we can all take to ensure our kids are safe outside the school gate. It only takes a split second for tragedy to occur and to change lives forever, so please do the right thing and look out for one another as our roads get busier," said Cr McIntyre.
