SHIRE PRESIDENT RECOGNISED AT WALGA CONFERENCE

The 2022 Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Convention and Trade Exhibition that took place in October 2022, recognised the contribution made to the Shire of York by Shire President Cr Denese Smythe.
Cr Smythe was presented with the Local Government Merit Award. This award is presented in appreciation of commitment and dedication to the pursuit of achievement for the community of a local government in WA as a member of Council.
Cr Smythe has served as a Councillor for a total of fourteen (14) years, having been first elected to Council in May 2001 and resigning in 2004. Cr Smythe was then successfully elected to Council again in October 2011. In 2015 her nomination for the position of Deputy President was successful and in 2019 she was elected as Shire President, a position she continues to hold.
